Tips Regarding Midterm and Final Assessment Scoring

The Midterm Assessment is designed primarily as a vehicle to communicate to Student Teacher what their strengths and areas of improvement are so they can work on improving their performance.
If at midterm, the Student Teacher is struggling and you are seeing many scores of '1' or have concerns, the Coach (University Supervisor) should contact the Director of Clinical Experiences and an improvement plan will be collaboratively created and put in place.
The Final Assessment is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the Student Teacher overall performance during their student teaching experience.

Assignments

Schedule

Student teachers should give Coach's (University Supervisor) a copy of the classroom schedule. This will help determine observation times.

Experience Log (Timesheet)

Student Teachers are required to keep a record of the time spent in the school with the following two categories:
Teaching and Preparation
Participation

At the end of the semester record logs will need to be signed and turned into IU Indianapolis. This is part of the certification requirement.

Seminars

Student teachers are required to attend seminars held by the School of Education throughout the student teaching experience. Reflections will be assigned to complete prior to and during seminar. See Syllabus for dates, reading assignments and reflection.

Observations

Coaches will observe you both formally and informally. Lesson plans are to be submitted electronically 48 hours in advance.

Benchmark Assessment

The Benchmark project will allow you to think deeply about assessment and plan lessons accordingly. (See Appendix)

Mid-Term & Final Assessment Rubric

A mid-term and final assessment will be completed around the 8 week and final week of student teaching. Mentor teachers will be asked to complete the Final Assessment-Part A using a Qualtrics rubric provided. Also, for Secondary complete Final Assessment-Part B using a Qualtrics rubric provided. Student Teachers and Mentor Teachers should meet and discuss the assessment together. A meeting between the Mentor Teacher, Student Teacher and Coach will take place mid-way through student teaching.
