Bio

Evelyn Gearries' has enjoyed every aspect of her 38 years of experience as an educator.

After graduating from Marian College (now Marian University), she began her teaching career at Broad Ripple High School in the Indianapolis Public School system where she taught biology and anatomy. She then completed her MS in Counselor Education at the IU School of Education in Indianapolis and became licensed as a secondary school counselor. She began counseling at IPS Arsenal Technical High School and found it to truly be her passion. She was a curriculum writer for the district; and was given an opportunity to help design and implement an alternative education program for high school students who had not been ultimately successful in traditional school settings.

Evelyn later accepted a position as Director of Guidance at Pike High School in Pike Township to implement initiatives for elementary, middle and high school students that would increase post-secondary preparation; precollegiate initiatives for all students; scholarship opportunities; students’ exploration and exposure to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, staff evaluations; and served as a mentor for counselors and administrative candidates; etc. As she had completed her MS in Secondary School Supervision, also at the IU School of Education in Indianapolis, she became an Assistant Principal at Pike High School and served in that role until she retired in 2018. Evelyn then worked for three additional years as an Educational Liaison for Child Advocates, Incorporated; and as an educational consultant with an evaluation team.

Evelyn's husband and herself now enjoy traveling; jazz festivals; working in their church; and spending time with their two grown children.
