Elementary Education
Candidates must have a regionally accredited bachelor's degree to be eligible for this program. There is no minimum GPA requirement. Because this program leads to a degree, students may be eligible for financial aid. Student's transcripts are evaluated for all requirements of the undergraduate program. Any course with a C or better grade that was taken by the student during the first degree can be used in the second degree if it is equivalent to a degree requirement. Usually this means taking 85-100 credit hours, which includes the two-year Teacher Education Program (TEP). The Second Bachelor's Degree program takes around three years to complete on a full-time basis.
Students may opt to do a license addition in English as a New Language or Special Education with this program. This would increase the number of credit hours taken, but not necessarily the length of the program. Successful candidates will receive a second degree and will be eligible for teacher certification grades K-6.
Because this is a second degree program, students must apply online as an undergraduate degree student through the Office of Admissions. Once admitted to IU Indianapolis, students would seek advising in the School of Education. If you want to speak with an advisor before enrolling please contact the proper advisor.
