Tests needed for graduate admission
GRE revised General Test scores are required for many of our master's programs.
Do I need to take the GRE?
The following master's programs require GRE scores for admission (please note exceptions based on GPA for U.S. applicants only):
- Elementary, Secondary, Language, and Special Education (except with an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher)
If you have already taken the GRE, you'll need to make sure your scores are still valid. GRE scores remain valid for five years after the testing year you took the exam in (July 1 – June 30).
When should I take the GRE?
We recommend that you take the GRE before you apply to a graduate program. If you choose to take the paper-delivered test, it can take several weeks for your official scores to be received by the IU School of Education in Indianapolis.
Where do I find more information about the GRE?
Find detailed information about the GRE—including how to register and the location of test centers—on the Educational Testing Service website.
