Applying to the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification programs

To be considered for admission into the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification programs in elementary or secondary education, submit a completed application by February 7 (for the program beginning the following summer or fall). No admissions decisions will be made before May.

Admission to the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification programs is competitive—more students apply than we can accommodate. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Some applicants may be asked to interview with admissions committee members in May.

Become a Hoosier STEM Academy (HSA) Fellow

Are you looking to earn a post-baccalaureate secondary license in Science or Math?

If so, you are also eligible to apply to the Hoosier STEM Academy

If accepted as an HSA Fellow, you will receive full tuition and fee funding for the licensure portion of the program. You are also eligible for funds to support the completion of the Master's degree in Secondary Education. The first step is applying to the ATAC program. We hope to see you in our program! 

How to apply

Secondary ATAC applicants will submit the passing content exam scores, prior to beginning the program. The scores should be submitted by April 1st. Below are the Secondary content exam test codes.

To apply to the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification program, submit a completed application by February 7 (for the program beginning in the following summer or fall). No admissions decisions will be made before May.

A completed application includes:

  1. A copy of the Aspiring Teacher Alternative Certification contact information sheet
  2. A 1-2 page personal statement
    Using 12-point font write a personal statement as a Word document. In the first paragraph, please state the program you wish to apply to, and how you think you will contribute to the teaching profession. Address why you wish to become a teacher and why you should be admitted to the program. Address your commitment to learning about issues of cultural diversity.
  3. Two letters of recommendation
    The letters should be professional recommendations, from people who can attest to your character and abilities. Must be on letterhead and signed.
  4. Transcript evaluation report
    Official Transcripts from all attended institutions.
  5. A completed Licensure Program Page
  6. Essay (1 page) explaining any extenuating circumstances that may have impacted your undergraduate academic career.
    This is required for students whose cumulative GPA is below a 2.5.
  7. Passing Content exam scores(Secondary applicants only)
  8. A resume listing educational and professional experiences
    The resume should list your educational and job experiences.
