Biography
Before transitioning to higher education, Dr. Tina O'Neal gained extensive experience as a special education teacher, coordinator, and consultant in Detroit, Michigan.
Currently, Dr. O'Neal teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in urban education, including assistive technology, disability studies, disability law, and instructional strategies with an emphasis on positive behavior support, as well as multicultural and global education.
Her research explores teacher perceptions and attitudes toward inclusive teaching methods in urban settings, with a particular focus on Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), intersectionality, and culturally sustaining pedagogy. Dr. O'Neal is especially interested in how teachers perceive, understand, and implement assistive technology, culturally responsive teaching practices, and trauma-informed care. Additionally, she is an international faculty fellow leading the study abroad program, Inspire, Educate, Transform, in Ghana.

Interests:
My research focuses on enhancing teacher preparation through the integration of assistive technologies to support diverse learners, addressing equity and inclusion challenges within urban special education settings, and promoting culturally responsive pedagogy to create inclusive learning environments. Additionally, I explore how global perspectives can inform and improve inclusive education practices worldwide.
